Reasons people enjoy Bow Hunting:- Enjoy the challenge and desire to develop new skills.
- Longer Hunting time.
- Ability to Hunt more Deer--two on the Archer's Hunting Permit in addition to the Deer taken with the Firearms Deer Permit.
- Bow Hunting refines Firearms Hunting skills.
- Go Hunting often and in the same place to get a feel of the land and habitat.
- Be aware of the wind direction.
- Build a blind of natural vegetation that is about shoulder-high to the archer when he/she is sitting on a small stool or seat. The blind should also blend in with the surroundings.
- In most circumstances, wear camouflage unless directed to wear Hunter orange.
- Prior to Bow Hunting, anticipate where the Deer will be shot and the arrow's expected flight path, and trim any branches that might deflect the arrow.
- Bow. Although there are three types of Hunting Bows are: straight (longbow), recurved, and compound, most Hunters use the compound bow because of the ease of use. Compound Bows use a system of pulleys that reduce draw weight at full-draw by up to 85%. In addition, arrows shot from a compound bow are faster with a flatter trajectory than that of the recurved bow. However, the best way to find a Bow is to get the advice of experienced Bow Hunters at an organized archery club.
- 6 or more practice Arrows and 6 or more Hunting Arrows. Practice arrows and Hunting arrows should be the same weight and matched to the strength of the bow to be most effective. In addition, arrows should be kept as sharp as possible to effectively cause the Deer to hemorrhage.
- Bow Quiver. Unlike the back quiver or leg quiver, the Bow Quiver holds extra arrows for ease of reloading.
- Arm guard
- Finger tab or glove
